The Douro Valleys, classified as a World Heritage Site, are the place of origin of Port wine (as well as other wines, red, white and rosé, of high quality). The Douro River is the key artery of this region, going through deep valleys from Spain to reach Porto, where it becomes an icon of the city. In summer it is a green area and in autumn it is filled with warm colors, making a wonderful landscape classified by UNESCO.
The grape harvest is one of the major tourist attractions and you can participate in wine tastings. One of the best ways to get to know this area is going up the river by boat, from Porto, and visiting the cities of Lamego and Régua.
