Garrotxa, located in the northeastern part of Catalonia is considered the most significative volcanic zone in the Iberian peninsula, with 40 volcanic cones and 20 lava flows. It's one of the most forested regions of Catalonia and counts with a vegetation of forests dominated by Evergreen Oaks, Robles and Beeches. It is formed by two completely different types of landscapes – on one side smooth in volcanic areas and on the other a much more abrupt area with ravines and steep gorges. It is possible to visit and do guided activities on foot, bike, donkey or even on a balloon! The area also counts with a touristic train. The local food offers products of great quality and the concept of volcanic food is one of the most interesting option.
