Tras-os-Montes and Alto Douro is one of the Portuguese provinces where cultural traditions have undergone fewer changes due to a certain isolation. It borders Galicia , to the north, and Castile and Leon , to the east. This province includes the districts of Vila Real and Bragança, as well as some municipalities in the districts of Viseu and Guarda. The vineyard is one of the main crops of this region, especially because it includes part of the Douro river, being an excellent complement to its rich traditional cuisine. This area is also known for its archaeological finds, the traditional popular parties and their dialects, from which mirandês is the most important.
