Activities and attractions

Villasimius is a famous seaside resort, which rises in the south-eastern tip of Sardinia and flows into the sea of ​​the Gulf of Carbonara. Its territory, in the province of Cagliari, also includes two wonderful islands, namely the Isola dei Cavoli and the Isola di Serpentara.

The village is worth a visit, not only to admire the beautiful beaches, but also to enjoy the unspoiled nature of the surrounding landscapes, the relaxing atmosphere and the excellent cuisine, based mainly on fresh fish.

Among the most significant attractions of Villasimius, we have the Fortezza Vecchia, which stands on a promontory near Capo Carbonara and is very interesting both from a historical and architectural point of view, as it has been a witness and protagonist of various historical periods. It is a complex structure, whose first nucleus probably dates back to the 14th century and was therefore built during a period of transition. It is currently home to a museum and is also used for various cultural exhibitions.

The territory of Villasimius is particularly interesting for the many archaeological finds present, first of all is Dumus de Janas, or the hypogean tombs. These are small graves dug on granite rocks, with 2 or 3 burial cells dating back to prehistoric times. Another archaeological testimony is given by the Tombs of the Giants or megalithic burials consisting of two parallel walls that determine the sepulchral corridor, also in the area were also found copper bracelets and coins.

The tourist port, also called "Marina di Villasimius", is located near the Capo di Carbonara, in the Gulf of the same name. The port is one of the most successful structures of the place, in fact it is very innovative in design and clean in line, also offering many services but at the same time it is very pleasant to walk.

In the streets of the Center you can find all kinds of shops, but we suggest shopping in the many craft shops that sell ceramics, jewelery, handmade cushions, characteristic fabrics and of course gastronomic products.

In terms of nightlife, the place has a lot to offer, especially during the summer season. The Center is full of little bars and is always very crowded, especially the Via del Mare, which becomes a meeting point for hundreds of people, and it is for this reason that the road is closed to traffic and becomes entirely pedestrian. Here you can find all kinds of bars: from ice cream parlors to cocktail bars; also Via Garibaldi and the neighboring streets offer various pubs and disco-pubs. Some nightclubs are located just outside the center.

The gastronomy of Villasimius is inevitably linked to the Sardinian tradition, but one of the exclusive specialties of the place, is sa costedda, properly called: costedda cun tamata, due to the dough made with tomatoes. Among the typical first courses, the malfatti are very famous, together with the sea-scented malloreddus. Among the main courses we distinguish the panada of lamb and panada di anguilla and the salad lobster; all accompanied by breads such as pan 'e trigu, su civraxu and su moddizzosu. Many restaurants are located in the central area of ​​the village, especially around Via Umberto I and Via Vittorio Emanuele, and at the beaches, so as to enjoy the sea view. Desserts to try are: zipulas, bianchittus and pirichittus.

Villasimius attracts many tourists for its splendid beaches, among the most famous we have the beach of Capo Carbonara, which is part of the marine protected area, also called Marine Park, which hosts considerable flora and fauna, and is divided into three zones . In fact, in the area there is the presence, in the depths, of barracudas, tropical species, and of various wrecks from different eras. Among the most beautiful beaches, we have the Spiaggia del Riso, so named because of the presence of small grains of granite quartz that resemble the very white grains of rice. The beach of Porto Sa Ruxi is a beach divided into three small coves surrounded by thick Mediterranean vegetation, while the Spiaggia dei Due Mari is particularly suitable for families, as we are talking about a low-tide and very relaxing area. The beach of Porto Giunco ​​instead, offers many services and during the weekend it is very crowded; it is a beach with very fine sand, between a lagoon and a crystalline sea. Also worth seeing is that of Punta Molentis, often crowded during the summer season, and you can also enjoy the view of the Serpentara Island. These wonderful places lend themselves to the practice of various water sports such as water skiing, canoeing, sailing, windsurfing and diving. The territory of Villasimius up to the forests of the Parco dei Sette Fratelli, constitutes an immense natural oasis, and therefore an opportunity to dive into itnature, with numerous paths that can be traveled on foot, on horseback or by bicycle.
