Activities and attractions

Because of its strategic position, the territory has been inhabited since ancient times, as evidenced by the domus de janas, dating back to the pre-Nuraghic period, and by the remains of nuraghi, built during the second millennium BC.

The Phoenicians, who frequented this area from the seventh century BC approximately, they built a sanctuary, perhaps dedicated to the goddess Astarte [7], which was later destroyed and set on fire by the Punic invaders around 540 BC The following Roman domination remain some traces including the baths, coins and a statue [8 ].

Torre di Porto Giunco
During the Middle Ages, the village of Carbonara (the name appears since documents of the thirteenth century) was part of the Giudicato of Cagliari until 1258 and then passed under the control of Gherardo della Gherardesca and his heirs [9].
