The accommodation

Nice bright small flat located in the heart of Rome at only five minutes walk from Colosseum and five minutes from central railway station Termini. Very central and safe area, close to Central Police station. The small flat is on the historical building without elevator. Inside your flat there is a small corridor with fridge and microwave, have two rooms one single and one double and bathroom with shower, sink and wc. You can use kitchen and roof top terrace at the end of stairs (five floors!)

Setting

A short walk from central station Termini, but very safe area just next to Police station. Midway between Termini and Colosseum close to main attraction of Rome, subway and busses.
In the Monti quarter there are many churches, some of which are universally famous. The Church of San Pietro in Vincoli (St. Peter's in Chains) owes its name to the precious relic it hosts: the chains used to fetter St. Peter in his prisons in Jerusalem and in Rome. The original church was dedicated to the Apostles and was built in the 4th century. Cardinal Giuliano della Rovere, the future Julius II, completely modified the church in the 15th century, which was further modified during the next century.

Activities and attractions

The quarter Monti has countless monuments and sights in addition to the world famous Roman Forum, Coliseum, Santa Maria Maggiore, Domus Aurea, St. Peter's in Chains or San Pietro in Vincoli.The Quirinale Palace was the former city residence of Pope Gregory XIII. Palazzo delle Esposizioni, or Exhibit Palace in Via Nazionale, Rome's Opera is situated in Via Torino, near Via Nazionale, between the Monti and Esquiline quarters.
The quarter is situated between the Coliseum (Roman Forum), Piazza Venezia (Capitol Hill), Via Nazionale and the St. Mary Major basilica (on top of the Esquiline hill), and finally the Quirinale Hill (with the urban palace of the Popes, presently of the President of the Republic).
The situation between several of Rome's Hills thus gives the name to this quarter ("Monti" in Italian means Mounts). It is endowed with beautiful churches, like St. Pietro in Vincoli, characteristic streets and piazzas. The quarter, very centrally located, has great character, and its people are very friendly. You find many art shops, craftsmen, cosy restaurants and cafees. There are many charming zones secluded from car traffic.
The quarter is ideal for the art and history connoisseurs, yet it is very enjoyable and also with a Bohemian, picturesque feel. Finally, in this uniquely varied district, in an old physics institute Enrico Fermi discovered the atom nucleus fragmentation, which won him the Noble prize.
