Setting

The flat is on the Urbanización Blegamar, located in the same promenade beach, with swimming pool (22/06 al15/09), tennis courts, infantil area, gardens and private parking.

On the promenade beach we found ice cream parlors, cafes, seafood restaurants, restaurants, pharmacies, convenience stores ....

Surrounded by pine trees, parks and saline Valdelagrana is a bubble in nature, where bike rides very nice. The population is young Valdelagrana, usually middle class families / high with children.

A few meters away is the natural park and Pinar Toruños of Algaida, where you can also enjoy beautiful scenery, many sporting activities for both children and adult bikes, canoes, sailing., Kayak .... .

The Puerto Sta Maria ostentatious mansions houses, cellars majestic high ceilings, castles ...

El Puerto de Santa Maria is the most centrally located town in all the Bay of Cadiz area. It´s just a short and beautiful ferry ride away from the City of Cadiz and a 10 minute train ride to Jerez. Both the train station and the closest of the two ferry terminals are within a 5 minute walk.

Rota and Sanlucar de Barrameda are easily reachable along the Northern Coast. Medina Sidonia and Arcos de la Frontera towards the interior, and Chiclana, Conil, Vejer de la Frontera and Caños de Meca towards the Southern Coast.

Bolonia with its Roman ruins of Baelo Claudia and stunning natural beaches are about 1 hour to the south - an easy day trip by car. And the ferry to Africa (Tangiers, Morocco) is a little more than an hour away, making weekend or even day trips to Africa possible. (Travel agencies sell very economically priced day or weekend trips including hotel and ferry.)

Buses link El Puerto with almost all the towns and cities around us if you are traveling without a car. And there is a local bus network that will get you to every one of the six beaches that El Puerto has.

The town itself has a long and storied history with legend saying it was founded by an ancient Greek king, King Menesteo, on his travels after the fall of Troy. The river was named to commemorate a last minute peace that was brokered as the armies of ancient Greece and Phoenicia massed against each other right where El Puerto de Santa Maria stands today. The name means The River to Forget.

The first Arab invasion of the Iberican Peninsula that took place in 711 AD occured right here on the shores of the Gualdalete River, in plain view of our house had it been there then.

Christopher Columbus lived here for several years. And the pilot and owner of the Santa Maria (of the Niña, Pinta and Santa Maria) was from here. He, Juan de la Cosa, made the first map in the world that included the 'New World'.

A copy of which you can see behind the beautiful castle of San Marcos. The castle has had many famous occupants and was at one time a beautiful Arab mosque and palace, somewhat like an Alhambra in miniture. It is in excellent condition and can be visited with tours in English and Spanish.

El Puerto, like Jerez and Sanlucar, is one of the principal makers of sherry and brandy. There are many famous bodegas where they make and age the sherry very close to us, and they are beautiful and extremely interesting to visit.

Many, including the Terry Bodega, only a few blocks away, are famed for their stables of regal Andalucian horses. In Summer the Terry Bodega has a wonderful show with flamenco dancers dancing along side their famous dancing horses.

It´s something great to see. And to eat the seafood that comes fresh from the Bay while drinking a chilled sherry straight from the cask that it was aged in is a pleasure fit for the gods
