The accommodation
Casa do Sal is a little cottage for 2/3 people right on the shore in the fishing town of Combarro in Galicia, Northern Spain. It was the old salt warehouse for the fishermen, now restored with alot of care it is a lovely holiday house. Enjoy the unforgetable views of the Pontevedra estuary, the sounds of the sea while you sleep, the amazing position which you can feed the fish from the window! Combarro is a beautiful, old fishing town, declared a historic monument, with beautiful old streets to wander and explore. The streets are full of bars and restaurants with terraces to sit out on and enjoy the gastronomy of Galicia. Combarro is famous for it's good food and a great place to try many local Galician recipes. It is only a five minute walk from the cottage to the beach at the end of the village. It is also only a few minutes by car to many of the lovely places such as Sanxenxo and Pontevedra. Santiago de Compostela is the nearest International airport at 45 mins, or 90 minutes to O Porto airport. The accommodation is very good quality, with exquisite furniture which is well planned for comfort as we have only just finished restoring Casa do Sal in early 2010. It is a lovely holiday cottage for couples, and for one child on the additional bed. The area has a mild climate all year round therefore perfect to visit the area called the Rias Bajas, the wine producing part of Galicia. A lovely corner of Northern Spain that is yet to be discovered by tourists.

Activities and attractions
The village of Combarro is located in the Rías Baixas estuaries, six kilometres from the city of Pontevedra. The old quarter in Combarro, which has been declared Property of Cultural Interest, is a representative example of three traditional architectural elements in Galicia: "hórreos" (raised granaries), "casas marineras" (sea houses) and crosses. In Plaza de San Roque you will find the library building, built in the 18th century, and two of the crosses in town. The crosses in Combarro, usually situated in squares or crossroads, have a peculiar feature: the figure of the Virgin is usually facing the sea, and Christ is facing the ground. Along Calle San Roque you can get to A Rúa, where there are traditional "casas marineras", with narrow arcades and balconies made of stone or wood, depending on how wealthy the owner was. If you want to see the emblematic "hórreos", you can go to the coast. There you will find about thirty, out of about sixty that are preserved in Combarro. They were used to store food and most of them were built in the 18th and 19th centuries. The old fishing port of Peirao can be reached on foot, either by passing through the town’s streets, or by crossing Padrón Beach when the tide is out.
As is typical in seafaring villages, on July 16th Combarro celebrates the Virgin of El Carmen festivity. Tradition demands boats to be decorated with flowers and flags in order to take part in an emotive maritime procession, the best-decorated boat being allowed to carry the image of the Virgin. The Mussel Festival, on 15 August, is another important event in the town.
