The accommodation

The self catering farmhouse has been renovated to make 2 lovely self catering holiday homes. A 3m splash pool has been installed this year in the private garden of Casa de Alagoa for the sole use of guests there.

Casa de Alagoa has 3 double bedrooms one with double bed and ensuite shower and private terrace overlooking the garden and on to arganil and the mountains in the distance. The second bedroom has a double bed and looks out across the fields to the mountains in the distance and the third bedroom has 2 single beds, there is also a 2nd separate shower room. The living room has maintained the pre-existing stone walls and large wooden beams and has portuguese satellite tv (some english channels), dvd/cd, wood burner, books and games and a sofa bed. The well equipped kitchen has a dishwasher, gas cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer, washing machine, pots and pans etc. There is a private garden with 3m splash pool and outside dining furniture, sun loungers and a barbecue.

Come and soak up the sun in the quiet and relaxing countryside!

Setting

This self catering farmhouse is in a quiet location in the village of Alagoa approx. 1.5kms from the main district town of Arganil. The house is approached by a quiet lane that leads on to the apple orchards and the local vineyards of the village. There are lovely views across the countryside to Arganil and the mountains in the distance.

Activities and attractions

Arganil is the main district town and has a selection of shops, cafes, restaurants, banks, chemists etc, there are also 2 large supermarkets as well as several smaller ones. There is an infants play park and a pretty designated walk zig zagging up the hill. During the summer months there is a free show in the town square on a Saturday evening and the large 5 day annual fair is held here at the beginning of September, usually around the 7th September.

There are lots of river beaches along the Rio Alva where you can swim in the clear waters. At Sarzedo river beach, less than 2 kms, there is also a council built outdoor swimming pool. At Secarias, 2kms, and Coja, 10kms, you can hire pedaloes and canoes or just swim and relax.. Fishing is also available along the river banks you will need a licence approx. €5.

Coimbra is one of the oldest university cities in Europe and has a large and very beautiful library that is open for visits from the public. Portugal dos Pequenitos is fun for children and alduts alike with minature houses depicting different types of housing from all over Portugal.

The seaside is less than an hours drive where you have the choice of the larger sandy beach at Figueira de Foz or the smaller resort of Tocha.

During the winter the Serra de Estrela has snow on its peaks where there is skiing, it is also worth a visit for the magnificent views, approx.60kms to the start of the uphill drive.
