Cottage with a heated pool!

In an idyllic setting, we found this adorable former farmhouse. It's over 100 years old and has been converted with love into a rural cottage, offering a quiet and relaxing stay for its guests. The nearby hamlet of El Acebuchal is a real “away from it all” destination where the crowds seem to be a million kilometres away. Yet, the whitewashed village of Frigiliana (6.5 km) is only a 15 minute drive and the beaches of Nerja only 25 minutes.

Location and outside area

The hamlet El Acebuchal, only a 5 minute walk (0.5 km), has an interesting history. It sits in the folds of a lovely valley in the Sierras of Tejeda, Almijara, and Alhama Natural Park from where its inhabitants were forced to abandon the hamlet in 1949 by the Franco regime. Then, El Acebuchal remained unoccupied and fell into ruin until 1998 when a descendant of one of the original villagers bought a house there. He encouraged others to help renovate the 32 homes, town hall, chapel, bar, and streets that make up El Acebuchal. The work has been carried out with great care and attention to details to return the village to its former glory. There are no shops here but there is a bar restaurant that serves up local dishes such as game, wild boar, and goat. Access to El Acebuchal is by a winding road through the mountains. The last 1.5 km are not surfaced and have some bumps. The surroundings are ideal for walkers—pine trees at every turn while aromatic thyme and rosemary scent the hillsides. In the whitewashed village of Frigiliana, well worth a visit, you will find a wide selection of shops, tapa bars, and restaurants. If you prefer a day at the beach, then you may also visit Nerja (9 km) where you can enjoy its beautiful beaches and take a dive in the Mediterranean. Small and intimate cove beaches can be found if you head to the east of Nerja.

Outside the villa, on a higher level, there’s your own covered, circular, heated pool. As you’d expect, you also have a barbecue and patio furniture for al fresco meals. Sun beds and a sunshade are available.

Inside and lay-out

The villa itself was converted by the local owners, giving it a traditional Spanish feel with a distinctly rustic finish. Inside, impressive beamed ceilings, terracotta floors, and walls of varying colours create its welcoming ambiance. The entrance to the villa is through a covered terrace area with dining amenities and a sitting area. From here, you access the lounge with open fireplace and TV. The kitchen is designed in a lovely Andalusian style with traditional tiles and modern comfort such as fridge /freezer, oven, hob, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, and kitchen utensils. On the first floor you will find 2 double bedrooms. There is a full bathroom.

Notes:

-The prices below are for occupancy by a maximum of 4 persons in 2 bedrooms. Adjacent to the villa you will find an independent apartment with a double bedroom that can be rented upon request.

- Mobile phone coverage can be a problem at this location. However, a WiFi internet connection is available (free of charge).

- Air conditioning is available in the living room and one double bedroom. Air conditioning is not needed in the other bedrooms.
