In the heart of Occitania, the small town of ALET LES BAINS has something to seduce visitors with its magnificent old civil and military architecture and its exceptional religious heritage. This wealth is the legacy of the city's glorious past. Spiritual capital from the 9th century until the 18th century, the city then experienced its golden age: many mansions were built alongside other medieval buildings. You can now visit some of them, such as the Episcopal Palace, which houses beautiful historic rooms, as well as a private park with century-old trees. The Larade hotel or the Fradin hotel, for their part, are remarkable for their facades decorated with arcades and corbels. Admire the medieval houses and shops with esoteric, cabalistic and Masonic signs suggesting the opulence of the time of the pilgrimage routes. A true place of ecclesiastical power in Languedoc, the city of Alet les Bains, formerly called Aleth, welcomed illustrious personalities, including the Prince of Conti (cousin of King Louis XIV) protector of the famous author Jean-Baptiste Poquelin, better known as by Moliere. Continue your visit to Alet les Bains by strolling randomly through the narrow streets where the old houses – some of which date back to the Middle Ages – are adorned with colorful shutters echoing the ocher hues of the arts and crafts shops. On the Place de la République (former Place du Puit) the 16th century Maison des Consuls is next to the Family House of NOSTRADAMUS, the Hôtel de la Main d’Argent, the Maison du Régent.
